This page is a quick guide to the ranks within the guild, and what each rank signifies. Starting from the bottom up, they are as follows; 6. Trial This is the "hazing" rank, and the rank is intentially designed to be difficult. During this phase, your loyalty to the guild will be thoroughly tested. As a trial, you will earn DKP for current content. Trials may not take loot over Raiders, so if anyone needs the item for Main Spec or Offspec, you may not bid. The purpose of this policy is to make sure the new members are here not for fast loot, but for the glory of the guild. Trial members are NOT eligible for BoE epics on current content, if they are not needed by the raid they will go into the guild bank for temporary storage. Should a trial who needs the item thereafter be promoted to Raider, they will then be able to contact an officer regarding their suitability for said item. Trial members are people who have joined Sons of Liches but have not yet shown us what they can do in a raiding environment. There is no fixed time for a trial period, but a member who proves him or herself to be capable, reliable and sociable will likely not remain on trial for very long. Guild members on trial will typically only have one character in the guild, which is the character they intend to be their raiding main. Trial members will be given raid spots to show us what they can do as soon as possible. Obviously, trial members who are geared for raids will get spots earlier! Trial members have no access to Guild Bank materials, but donations are looked upon favorably. 5. Alt Alts are for members who have more than one level 80 character they wish to have in the guild. While there is no limit to the number of alts you may have, only serious alts will be considered, no level 10 characters etc. (Officers may ignore this rule shamelessly to ensure they are online as often as possible) Alts are eligible for raiding spots if we cannot fill a balanced raid with the mains we have available. When building a raid however, mains will ALWAYS take precedence over an Alt. You can later elect to switch your Main character with an Alt if you wish, to allow the Alt a higher chance at getting a raid spot. This must be authorised by an Officer or the GM. A switch will likely not be accepted if we have many active mains of the same spec as the Alt you wish to promote, or if we do not have enough of the main you with to demote. For example, if we have 1 Holy priest which is your current main, but you wish to promote your Warlock and we have 4 active Warlocks, this switch would likely be denied as we would effectively be denying ourselves our only Holy Priest. 4. Raider Your one main character will be your Raider. When you join the guild, you will have been recruited for this character, to raid with it's current spec. Your main should be your most played, best geared character. The guild will try to be flexible in terms of roles people are able to play with their mains. If you sign up for one role, be it Healing, Tanking or DPS, you would likely lose your raiding spot should you decide to switch to a role which would harm the guilds ability to raid as a whole. Raiders will always be considered for raiding spots above other ranks. The raiding spots we will allocate for each role/class will be limited, so if you have a spot but prove unreliable you will likely lose this spot to another player. However, raiding characters that constantly prove themselves able will be rewarded with regular starting spots in raid groups. Raiders will be able to request Guild Bank materials or items to enhance their characters raiding ability. These requests should be put forward through the facility on the website, or in urgent circumstances by asking an Officer or Class Master directly. 3. Class Master Raiders who have proven they know their class, their spec, and all other aspects of their class will be chosen for the rank of Class Master. Class Masters are responsible for the overseeing of members of their class from the rank of Trial to Raider. It will ultimately be up to the class master to determine if a trial member has what it takes to become a full member. If you are asked to fill the role of Class Master for your class, you will be expected to be an example of how your class should be played. You will be given priority on raid spots and therefore will be expected to know each member of your class in the guild and their capabilities. You will work with the officers to ensure our raid groups are as strong as possible. If members have problems with their gear, need advice on their build, they should feel comfortable in asking you for help. Class Masters should naturally become the best geared and played members of their class due to high activity levels and raiding priority. Guild Bank materials which would help you improve the performance of yourself and other members of your class will be yours to distribute and source. As a Class Master it may fall upon you to lead a raid when there are no Officers available. While we do not expect you to learn all the tedious processes involved in using the DKP system, in situations like this you would be expected to keep a basic record who attended, bosses downed and who received what loot. This information should be passed to an officer or the GM as soon as possible for them to update the system. There will be private areas on the website forum for this and other business. The role of Class Master is not a position you can apply for, and asking for a position as Class Master for your class is discouraged and may only work against you. If you are seen to be making an effrot gearing up, researching the various specs for your class and assisting your fellow guild mates then your efforts will not go unnoticed. Anyone who is up to the standards required will be approached by an officer and be given an opportunity to become a class Master. This position is voluntary, and as such you are under no obligation to accept the offer 2. Officers Officer's are the core of SoL. They've shown an undying dedication to the guild and it's progress. Officer's are in a position of leadership and decision making. In reaching that rank, you become a part of the lasting core of SoL, the inner-circle of the guild. Officer's help with the recruitment process. Officers take care of the day to day issues, policies, recruitment, website, DKP system and raids of the guild. All guild raids will be led by officers except in extreme circumstances. If you have a problem with something in the guild which is not directly related to your class, want to recommend someone for a trial or other matters your Class Master cannot help you with, you should ask an Officer! As the guild grows the need for officers will likely increase. Members who are eligible for officership are usually drawn from the ranks of Class Masters, or raiders who show excellent judgement and ability. Officers move in mysterious ways and their grand schemes should not be guessed at, or any attempts made to steal portions of their succulent power. Any attempts to do so will result in you being smitten by Righteous Fire. In a debate on any issue, an Officers word is final! In cases where two Officers are arguing in guild chat, we advise logging off immediately to prevent casualties. 1. Guild Master, Lord Supreme Tree, Master of the Subtle Rebuke, Man with the Plan, He who shall not be doubted, Gotmilk! Our GM is our Lord and Saviour, and you shall worship him accordingly. No false idols may be revered in His domain and His Will shall be done. In cases where drama reaches such heights the word of an officer is not sufficient, our GM will have the final say, although you may wish He did not. Milky is a fair minded deity, and will always listen to all sides of an argument before making any decisions. We're all here and doing what we do because He has been doing a good job so far, so fear not! He is always with you, watching over your shoulder, whispering encouragement to the worthy and making snide comments to the useless. Promotion process Trials get promoted to Raider by a vote of the Officers when feel a promotion is warranted. 75% approval required for this promotion. Raiders get promoted to Officers by a vote of the officers. 100% approval required for this promotion. This process is EXTREMELY rare and a very long debate usually goes with it. Inactive / Probation
To get items from raids, we expect our members to raid with us. To prevent people who don't really seem to want to raid (or even log on) from getting loot over active members, we've implemented an "Inactive Raider" status. This will prevent members who raid regularly, but may have very low DKP from getting items taken from them by players who haven't been online for 3 months, show up then magically appear for 1 raid, snag an item, and dissappear for another 3 months. As an inactive you will have loot preference over trials, but not over Raiders. You will continue to earn DKP. Once you are made inactive, there will be a period necessary to be reactivated. There are two ways to become reactivated: The fast way, and the slow way. The Fast way will be the preferred method for people who are historically hard-core raiders, but decided to take a "Break". To be reactivated quickly: you have to attend at LEAST 3 dkp raids within a 9 day period before you can receive loot, and you may not receive loot over an active member until AFTER that 9 day reactivation period. More descriptively, 2 requirements: 1) Must attend 3 raids (DKP Raids) within a 9-day span. 2) The reactivation period must have been going for at LEAST 9 days prior. Meaning if you don't meet 9-day reactivation period requirements, but attend within 9 days of their last raid, the activation period is technically still going. (This just means that you can effectively attend every 9 days and be perpetually "reactivating"). The slow method (or "casual clause" as it can be called) is for people who don't really have a lot of time to raid, nor have they ever. As an alternative to the fast reactivation, a member may be present for at least 1 dkp raid per week for 3 straight weeks...on the 3rd week, they will be eligible for loot over other active members. Some examples of the Fast method in action, so it's clear: Example 1: Attend a Raid January 1st (cannot get loot, 1st attendance) Attend a Raid January 2nd (cannot get loot, 2nd attendance) Attend a Raid January 8th (cannot get loot, 3rd attendance) Attend a Raid January 9th (cannot get loot, it's the 9th day, but we must wait until AFTER the 9 days). Attend a Raid January 10th (they attended 4 raid during the 9 days, they are eligible for loot) Example 2: Attend a Raid January 1st (cannot get loot, 1st attendance) Attend a Raid January 8th (cannot get loot, 2nd attendance) Attend a Raid January 10th (cannot get loot, But being after the start of the 9-day period, the new "activation start date" is Jan 8th, so this would be the 2nd attendance) Attend a Raid January 12th (cannot get loot, 3rd attendance) Attend a Raid January 13th (can get loot, as they meet the 9-day 3-raid activation period, and their activation period has been going for longer than 9 days) Notice that this is not to attempt to "screw" people who are inactive out of loot, but to ensure that those epics stay on the active raiding members. Requiring at least 1 raid every 2 weeks to get loot over active members is not unreasonable. You may still come in and get loot defaulted to you, like a warlock who's inactive and every lock has their full tier 7 stuff, pretty much. Probation
Everyone has a bad day occasionally, and we understand that. However, occasionally, someone who may have been previously promoted to Raider may straight-up stop trying, or has proven to be a completely incompetent player, or may have developed a terrible, and negative attitude. For these people, the officers may impose probation on those troublesome members. Being on probation makes you ineligible for loot, and it lasts a minimum of one week. If you are put on probation, that's the officer's way of saying "step up your game and fix your attitude, or you'lll be without a guild soon." Last Edited: 22nd February 2010 | ||
