1. The Mission Statement Sons of Liches is a Level 80 Raiding guild. SoL is a progression raiding guild who strive to be the best of the best, all the while having fun in a friendly and active gaming community. 2. Site Usage All members of the guild must have a site account before joining. This is non-negotiable. You will NOT be invited to join until you have registered an account. 3. Mains & Alts Every player in the guild may have one raiding main. When you join us that character will be allocated that raiding spot. You may join the guild with other level 80 alts you posses but these alts will NEVER get a raid spot over another characters main. If you wish to change your main at a later date, you will need to petition an officer. Alts will only be invited to the guild once your main attains the rank of Raider and above. Having & playing alts in the guild is a bonus, not a right! If you are playing an alt, doing a heroic etc and the guild has need of you to make a raid happen, you will drop whatever you are doing and help out. This applies even if you do not sign up. If you are online and playing, you are available! If we are going to progress, we ALL need to be flexible, and by joining our ranks you share this philosophy. 4. Raid Spots Raid spots are assigned at the officers/class masters discretion, based on performance, attitude and overall suitability. If you do not perform well, have a poor attitude, or are otherwise determined unsuitable, you will lose your raid spot to someone more suitable. Raid spots are earned. NOTE WELL: We will be building raids out of the BEST we have available. If this isn't you, you will not make the cut and may be benched until you raise your game, and give you time to work for your spot back. 5. Raid Frequency and Teams Depending on progression, we may have multiple raid groups operating at any one time. If you are not given a starting spot in one of these groups group, this does not mean you should instead go down the boozer on a raid night. We may need replacements, or another raid group may be made with the right numbers. If you want to earn your place in a group, you need to fight for a spot and be available when you're needed. All raids will be posted on the site at least 5 days before they begin. The roster will be decided via who signs up in the build-up to the raid date. If you sign up for the raid and are placed in the waiting list, you must still be online at the time of the raid in case you are needed! Players on the waiting list may be allocated a raid spot by the raid leader at any time, so check often! 6. Raid Conduct and Attendance If you are scheduled to attend a raid, you MUST be online at least 15 minutes before the start of the raid for an invitation. An 8:30 start means we start at that time, not you turn your computer on after dinner. If you are more than 5 minutes late, you will be deducted DKP in accordance with our rules, unless you have given notice to an office beforehand. If you fail to come online by the time your spot has been filled and no reason has been given, it will be counted as a missed raid. More than 1 missed raid in a short period with no valid reason will see you losing your raiding spot to someone else. All raid members MUST be able to at least listen on ventrilo, and should have the latest DBM and Omen installed at a minimum. Raiders are expected to be professional while raiding. We all want to have fun, but sometimes you just have to knuckle down and get on with things. If you are hindering raid progress by being a drama queen, you will be kicked and replaced. For all SoL raids, unless otherwise specified, invites start at 19:30 Server time and the raids start at 20:00 Server time weekdays. Weekend raid times may vary by group. Typical Raid Schedule is as follows: Wednesday: ICC25hc Sunday: ICC25hc Continuation group Tuesday: ICC25hc continuation group On non-regular scheduled days, we may occasionally do further hard modes or alternative runs in other raid instances to get other needed items. The Raid schedule is not static; it's a living breathing thing. We may, if time permits, add an additional boss, an additional instance, or straight-up change the location of the raid based on the turnout and makeup of the raid. Our focus is on progression, and if we have the people, we're going to attempt to accomplish as much as we possibly can. You are expected to provide your own potions, flask, food etc for the raids. If you come to a raid without a flask / food buffs, you're gimping yourself, and therefore the raid. Full consumables must be used. this includes the following:
Attendance Management The officers have put into place measures to ensure that we are recording who these people are attending raids so that we can take appropriate action against individuals attending for farm raids, and not for progression raids. This is to ensure that members put their fellow guild mates and the guild ahead of their own personal agenda.
Whilst we can appreciate that wiping on a boss for 3 hours is not fun, that is what this game and this guild is all about. We are a progression guild who strives for greatness from all of our members and the guild as a whole. We all want the loot, we all want the accolades and we all want the comfort of being in a secure, stable and progressive guild. Without effort on everyone's part, the guild will stagnate, progress will dry up and everyone will get bored…. And we all know that games are not fun when they are boring. We use the Attendance facility in Worldoflogs to record attendance for each 25 man raid that we have, even the raids that are cancelled due to lack of signups so that EVERY raid is logged, even failed ones. When the log is uploaded, it automatically logs who was in the raid group and lists each raid that has ever been uploaded so that we have a historical view of attendance. This will mean that we have a record of those people that didn’t turn up to those failed raids.
This lets us see immediately at a glance who’s turning up on farm days and passing on the progression raids. If this is you, you will not have a rosy future in this guild…. You have no future in fact, you’ll be gone.
Each week we post the following list in a post on the Guild forum:
1) The members that attended on Wednesday 2) The members that attended Wednesday but not Sunday 3) The members that attended Wednesday but not Tuesday
Caveats:
1) If you KNOW you are unable to make Sunday or Tuesday (or both) when you sign up for Wednesday, you HAVE to put this in your signup notes on the Wednesday prior. Then, we are able to decide whether to take you or give your spot to someone who can come for the run in your stead. Don’t be selfish, give the spot to someone who can come for the farm and wipe on the continuation.
2) If something comes up IRL or whatever and you are unable to sign up for a continuation run, then you NEED to let an officer / raid leader know ASAP. Failure to do so will result in an AWOL strike.
Further to the list of names, next to each name a reason for absence will be given if one was provided. If no reason was provided, then an AWOL strike (Absence without leave) will go against your name. If you get 3 strikes in 1 calendar month you are kicked from the guild.
NOTE: If you given a reason for absence, then you do not get an AWOL strike, but consistent “something came up IRL” every week will not go down well, use your common sense.
An example with fictitious members below:
========================================================== ICC25 raid 23rd February 2010
Attended on Wednesday:
Tank1, Tank2, Tank3, Healer1, Healer2, Healer3, Healer4, Healer5, Healer5, DPS1, DPS2……….. DPS16
Attended Wednesday but not Sunday:
Tank1 (Vacation as per post on forum) Healer3 (AWOL) DPS2 (Coursework – Officer informed 24 hours prior)
Attended Wednesday but not Tuesday:
Healer 3 (AWOL) Tank1 (Vacation as per post on forum) DPS7 (AWOL)
Running total of AWOL for the month of February:
Healer3: 3 x AWOL – GKICK DPS7: 1 x AWOL (follow up needed) DPS13: 2 x AWOL (follow up needed look for possible replacement) ==========================================================
So, as you can see this system has several benefits:
1) We can immediately identify if people disappear / stop playing without letting us know, and we can proactively organise replacements for this spot 2) It improves communication between our raiders, so that everyone is in the loop with what’s going on, and will hopefully create a greater sense of community. If you’re going on holiday, or you’ve got family coming over, let us know! If you don’t want to go into details, just put in your Wed sign up that you can attended on Wed if needed, but IRL will mean you can’t raid on Sunday and Tuesday, then at least we know what’s happening and can plan accordingly. 3) It ensures that we can fill our raid with people who want to go all the way with the guild. The vast majority of our guild is strong, loyal and exceedingly skilled. However, there is a small minority letting those people down, and as your GM, the officers and I are bound to protecting your best interests and ensuring the longevity and success of this guild.
I’m sure there are some of you who will think that this system is too controlling, or “why should I say when I can’t play a game, it’s just a game”. You are the kind of people this system is here to protect our guild from. If that’s your mindset, then please do us all a favour and find another guild.
A raid comprises 25 people, of different nationalities, professions, religions, family background etc. We all have lives, things we like to do outside of raiding and playing WoW, and those are the people you are wasting time for if you do not have the courtesy to take 30 secs of your busy life and let us know that you can’t attend a raid or two in the coming week. It’s not a control thing, it’s a respect thing.
Yes we play to have fun, but we are a progression raiding guild. If you want to turn up when you feel like it, then join one of these guilds that spam trade for 3 weeks before dying. SoL has been around in excess of 4 years over 3 different realms, and it’s survived this long because I have always built the guild around a core of excellent officers, reliable members and a strict code of conduct for our members. If these ideals do not fit with how you see the world, then find a guild that suits you.
